Tips for Moving Large Furniture
While hardly anything is as exciting as moving into a new place, there’s almost nothing most people dread more than moving day itself. Packing, unpacking, and heavy lifting can all leave you feeling exhausted and frustrated, especially when it comes to moving large or cumbersome furniture. There are several things you can do to make the big day easier, however, and when you’ve had enough you can always call us at Joe Bonnie & Son Moving & Storage for assistance. Here are three tips for moving large furniture.
Make a Plan
Before you start pushing and pulling on that heavy armoire, it’s helpful to make a plan of action. Firstly, assess all of the big pieces you plan to move to ensure they will fit through all doorways and entrances. There’s nothing worse than getting a heavy piece of furniture to the door only to realize it’s not going to fit, before dropping it on your toes. It’s better to have this realization beforehand and spare your limbs and muscles the unnecessary effort.
Of the tips for moving large furniture, this one is the easiest to do before moving day. Go through all of your heavy or big pieces and determine what can be broken down. This may be as simple as taking your clothes out of a heavy dresser and removing its drawers to make it easier to manage. If your couch has legs, take them off to make it more maneuverable.
If you’re considering doing the job solo, don’t even think about it. Enlist the help of a strong friend or two to tackle the job. It’s also a great idea to rent a dolly or another device that will carry the brunt of the weight for you on flat surfaces.
