At first glance, packing clothes seems like one of the easier tasks that needs to be done when moving home. However, there are a few challenges that packing up your closets and dresser drawers may present. Use these tips to find out how to pack clothes for moving efficiently presented by Joe Bonnie & Son Moving & Storage.
Get Rid of Old Items
One of the first things you can do to ensure efficient packing is rid yourself of items you will not use at your new place. In the case of clothing, donate lightly used items and throw out the rest. When in doubt about whether or not you should get rid of an item, ask yourself whether you have worn it in the last year. If not, it is probably a good indication that you will not wear it again.
Pack an Overnight Bag First
When packing clothes, there is always a small chance you will misplace the box you need. Make sure you have enough clothing at your new home by packing a small overnight bag with a few changes of clothes. Keep this bag close to you on moving day.
Pack Clothes by Season
Out of season clothes are one of the first items you can pack. Box up these and other items such as formal wear early so you don’t have to worry about them later on.
Get a Few Wardrobe Boxes
Wardrobe boxes are tall packing boxes with a metal bar along the top so that you can hang clothes. These are great for packing clothes like suits and dresses that you don’t want to fold. Invest in a few of these to make transitioning clothes to a new closet easier.
